Summer Camp Lights up Children's Future

With only a few weeks left before school starts, few would imagine that children would be emerged in books and educational activities. A place to instill in its children a love for learning, while stressing the importance of lifelong learning, El Buen’s Summer Camp is designed to bridge the gap between the spring and fall semester for children ages six to 12.

El Buen’s Summer Camp is an eight-week program with an academic-based curriculum that consists of math, literacy, science and the arts. “Each day begins with an anticipatory activity to get the children excited about learning,” said Leslie Quinnell, education programs coordinator. “This consists of either a game regarding a literary component or a mini-experiment. This is all with the purpose of igniting the children’s interest in the topic of the day.”

The children then move on to a mini-lesson, in which they learn about fractions, 3D geometry shapes and logic problems on math days; onomatopoeia, personification, alliteration and imagery on literacy days; static electricity, the atom, pigmentation, light, time and space on science days; and paintings, arts and crafts on art day.

And because every child needs to feel good and tired for his after-lunch nap, El Buen’s Summer Camp incorporates outdoor games every day immediately following the academic curriculum. These games include team-building recreational activities such as tug of war, circle stride ball and rope circles, among others.
