El Buen Samaritano continues to expand the number of services to reach working-poor Hispanic families. Your financial support of these programs helps families to move to a more stable life.

We provide a hand up, not a hand-out. Our clients are active agents in their own betterment. Through the practical help they receive, they work to transform their lives and participate more fully in the community.

Your gift, no matter the size, helps create the partnership between El Buen Samaritano and the people we serve.

Stock Giving

Gifts of appreciated securities (stocks) are a popular alternative to making a cash gift as they may offer you additional tax advantages. In addition to receiving an income tax deduction for the full market value of the securities, you may also avoid capital gains on the appreciation of your stocks. If your donated securities are used to fund a charitable trust or gift annuity there may be estate and gift tax advantages as well.

To make such a gift, do not sell the stock and donate the proceeds, as this will jeopardize your tax benefits. Instead, notify your broker of your intention and contact Erica Solis, Development Associate. When you contact us, please be prepared to provide your broker’s name and telephone number, the name of the stock and number of shares you wish to contribute. We will then contact your broker. You will be notified of the contribution deduction based on the date of your securities transfer.

For questions or more information on making a gift of stock, please email Erica Solis, Development Associate.

Donate items

Donate New & Gently Used Items

Many families come to El Buen Samaritano with very little, if any, of their possessions. When a survivor flees their home, too often they are forced to leave during a moment of crisis and with nothing but a few personal belongings. Community donations of new and gently used items help provide for a family's basic needs – and are an important first step in helping survivors start over. When a survivor can have their basic needs met, they can focus on beginning to heal, physically and emotionally.

Donate your car:

When you purchase a new car or retire an old one, consider donating the vehicle to El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission. We benefit by receiving a cash donation to fund our programs and services for the community. You benefit by reducing your taxable income and avoiding the costs associated with selling your car – all while supporting an organization you believe in.

We will arrange timely pick-up of your vehicle and provide documentation for your tax-deductible donation. Donating your vehicle provides us with a resale opportunity through Charitable Auto Recycling.

Frequently Asked Questions About Vehicle Donation

What can I donate?

We accept most cars, trucks, vans, fleet vehicles, trailers, boats and recreational vehicles, either running or not. (Exceptions include older vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing.)

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes, El Buen Samaritano is classified with the IRS as non-profit 501 (c)3 charitable organization which makes your donation tax deductible to the full extent of the law. However, individual tax situations are different, so please check with your tax professional to determine how you may benefit from your donation.

What do I need to do to donate my vehicle?

When you have the keys and the title on hand, contact Erica Solis, Development Associate. If you do not have the papers, contact us and we can help you.

How is the value of my car determined?

The majority of vehicles donated to El Buen Samaritano are auctioned through our partnership with Charitable Auto Recycling. In accordance with IRS tax laws, donors who would like a tax deduction can claim the auction value of the vehicle, which will be provided to you by El Buen Samaritano once the car has been successfully sold.

How will the car be picked up?

We will make arrangements to have your vehicle towed, free of charge, to Charitable Auto Recycling.

How long will it take to pick up my car?

Once we have all the necessary information, our tow service will contact you within 24 to 48 business hours to schedule a pick up.

Host a Fundraiser

We are privileged to welcome the support of community members who take it upon themselves to host an event to benefit El Buen Samaritano. By taking on a fundraising project, the host (an individual, business, family or group in the community) assumes all responsibility for creating and producing the event. There are guidelines for hosting a community fundraiser and an information form we ask fundraisers to submit to El Buen Samaritano so we can recognize your efforts and offer support if we are able.

By choosing El Buen Samaritano as a beneficiary of your upcoming event, you not only raise much needed funds but also bring awareness to the community about the help available to underserved families in Austin.

If you wish to host your own community fundraiser, please contact Erica Solis, Development Associate.
