Gifts of appreciated securities (stocks) are a popular alternative to making a cash gift as they may offer you additional tax advantages. In addition to receiving an income tax deduction for the full market value of the securities, you may also avoid capital gains on the appreciation of your stocks. If your donated securities are used to fund a charitable trust or gift annuity there may be estate and gift tax advantages as well.
To make such a gift, do not sell the stock and donate the proceeds, as this will jeopardize your tax benefits. Instead, notify your broker of your intention and contact Candice Towe, Senior Development Manager. When you contact us, please be prepared to provide your broker’s name and telephone number, the name of the stock and number of shares you wish to contribute. We will then contact your broker. You will be notified of the contribution deduction based on the date of your securities transfer.
For questions or more information on making a gift of stock, please email Candice Towe, Senior Development Manager.

Donate New & Gently Used Items
Many families come to El Buen Samaritano with very little, if any, of their possessions. When a survivor flees their home, too often they are forced to leave during a moment of crisis and with nothing but a few personal belongings. Community donations of new and gently used items help provide for a family's basic needs – and are an important first step in helping survivors start over. When a survivor can have their basic needs met, they can focus on beginning to heal, physically and emotionally.

Donate your car:
Have a clunker you've been storing away in that dusty garage? One person's junk has just become another person's treasure! El Buen Samaritano benefits by receiving a cash donation of your retired car and applying it directly to benefit Austin's Latino community. By donating your old car, you benefit by reducing your taxable income while supporting a great cause! We accept most cars, trucks, vans, trailers, fleet vehicles, boats and recreational vehicles, running or not--with the exception of older vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing.
El Buen Samaritano uses a third part vendor, so when you have the keys and title on hand, please contact Charitable Auto Recycling at (512) 398–5995. If you don't have all necessary paperwork, contact Charitable Auto Recycling and they will be more than happy to assist you. They will make arrangements to have your vehicle towed, free of charge! Since El Buen Samaritano is classified with the IRS as non-profit 501 (c)3 charitable organization, it makes your donation tax deductible to the full extent of the law. However, since individual tax situations may vary, please verify with your tax professional to see how this donation may benefit you. For more information on donating your car to El Buen Samaritano, please visit Charitable Auto Recycling online or contact Candice Towe.

Host a Fundraiser
We are privileged to welcome the support of community members who take it upon themselves to host an event to benefit El Buen Samaritano. By taking on a fundraising project, the host (an individual, business, family or group in the community) assumes all responsibility for creating and producing the event. There are guidelines for hosting a community fundraiser and an information form we ask fundraisers to submit to El Buen Samaritano so we can recognize your efforts and offer support if we are able.
By choosing El Buen Samaritano as a beneficiary of your upcoming event, you not only raise much needed funds but also bring awareness to the community about the help available to underserved families in Austin.
If you wish to host your own community fundraiser, please contact Candice Towe, Senior Development Manager.
