Dear friend of El Buen,
As El Buen prepares to enter its 25th year of service to Austin's Latino community, we grow increasingly mindful that our clients and volunteers shape the mission and vision of the organization. It is our calling to effectively respond to our clients' needs, provide volunteers with rewarding opportunities to give back and deliver programs and services that focus on strengthening families.
As El Buen increases its presence in the community with expanded programming along with community-wide events, we hope you respond to our call for volunteers below. In this issue, we are excited to present encouraging findings from our first session of ¡Salud Hoy!, how a volunteer project made a difference in the lives of both the volunteers and the students, and how you can help us plan strategically as we enter our 25th year of service.
We thank you for your ongoing support, as we seek to better meet the needs of our clients.
Sincerely,

Victor Azios, Executive Director

Can improved family communication lead to a healthier lifestyle?
Back in our Hand to Hand, April 2011 issue, you read about a family who's been participating in El Buen's ¡Salud Hoy! Formando Familias Saludables (Building Healthy Families) program. We followed their progress throughout the first ten-week session. And when we asked them to tell us about something they learned that they didn't expect to learn, their answer was family communication. Watch this video and explore how improved communication among family members can lead to a healthier lifestyle!

Technology innovators and English learners, in for a cultural treat
What better way to enrich the soul than through culture and community service. A group of 13 AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) employees volunteered to provide English-conversation practice to students from various Spanish-speaking countries, Korea and Brazil on Friday, June 17 at El Buen Samaritano. As a result of the group's service, El Buen Samaritano received a $500 Team Development Grant through AMD's Global Community Affairs program. Thank you AMD for your commitment to volunteerism and service to the community! Click to learn more and watch the slideshow.
