Teaching Assistant (ESL)
The position of teaching assistant in the ESL classrooms is the perfect opportunity for those who would prefer to offer classroom support rather than direct instruction. Our assistants help the instructors as needed in the classroom, working with small groups or one-on-one with students who may be struggling with a particular subject or activity. Inexperienced volunteers are often encouraged to begin as teaching assistants and progress to classroom instructors once they feel more comfortable with the material and classroom environment. This is a wonderful opportunity for our high school volunteers or those who are looking to make a shorter-term volunteer commitment.

Requirements:

Teaching assistants are not required to commit to the entire semester.

Teaching assistants are encouraged to observe a class (when possible) before committing to an assignment.

Bilingual skills are preferred, but not required.

Prior teaching experience is not necessary.

Hours:
Daytime ESL classes are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Teaching assistants can commit to one or more days per week.
