The Adult Education Program offers the following classes:
The ESL classes at El Buen Samaritano are divided into various levels, which include Introduction, Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4. Our ESL classes are designed to help non-English speakers develop communication skills, English grammar knowledge, vocabulary and writing proficiency. This comprehensive 15-week-long course covers all topics within the ESL level. Upon completion, students who pass the final exam will be promoted to the next ESL level.
El Buen also offers Beginning and Advanced Conversation classes during the Fall, Spring and Summer terms for our students who want to focus on improving oral communication and survival English skills. These classes are free, open to the public, and will be more flexible in structure to facilitate discussion.
The computer literacy classes at El Buen teach students the computer skills needed to enhance their academic careers, jobs, and personal goals. Classes are offered in the morning and evening.
In Basic computer, students will learn the foundational basics of how to use a computer. Topics that will be covered include: Computer set-up, keyboarding, mouse skills, file management, email, and internet basics.
In Intermediate computer, students will focus more on individual Microsoft Office programs like Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Students will learn a variety of ways to apply those skills to daily life.
In Advanced computer, students will break away from traditional computer programs and focus more on topics like social media and managing media like photos and video. This course is Internet intensive and requires a foundational knowledge of basic computer skills.
In this free Friday morning class students are encouraged to come up with their own projects and questions to dictate their own curriculum. A teacher will be available to help tutor students through their projects and provide some direction.
Non-English speaking adults without a firm foundation in formal schooling and literacy from their countries of origin face challenges when trying to learn English as a Second Language because many lessons are print-based and assume a level of general knowledge. El Buen offers the opportunity for native Spanish speakers to learn basic reading and writing through completing their primary and secondary education in Spanish with materials from the Mexican National Institute for Adult Education. Upon completion, students can receive a certificate of completion of primary and secondary school from the Ministry of Public Education in Mexico. Classes are available in the morning and evening. Enrollment is ongoing throughout the year.
Classes are available during the morning and during the evening.
